Central Florida emergency teams go over hurricane plans as new season begins

SANFORD, Fla. — Hurricane season 2003 has officially begun.

The new hurricane season comes as many people continue to recover from hurricanes Ian and Nicole.

While there’s no guarantee of what comes this year, local emergency teams are already getting ready.

The Seminole County Office of Emergency Management held several big tests to make sure everyone is better prepared.

During last year’s season, flooding caused most of the damage.

This hurricane season, the Seminole County Fire Department will be better prepared to help stranded residents.

They have purchased two new military-style vehicles with much higher water capabilities and a capacity that is more than double that of the department’s previous vehicles.
