5-year-old among 4 killed in Lake County crash

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Four people died in a crash involving an SUV early Wednesday near Clermont, troopers said.

Troopers said the driver of a Dodge Durango was heading south on County Road 561 when he ran off the road and hit a large tree.

The crash happened south of Florida Boys Ranch Road shortly after midnight.

Investigators said they’re looking into why the driver failed to negotiate a curve along CR 561.

Troopers have not released names, but gave the following details about the four people who died in the crash:

  • Driver: Male, age 24 of Orlando
  • Passenger: Male, age 48 of Orlando
  • Passenger: Female, age 23 of Orlando
  • Passenger: Female, age 5 of Clermont

None of the adults in the Durango were wearing seatbelts, according to FHP.

Troopers also noted that the 5-year-old girl was not in a proper child car seat.

As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, FHP was still reporting roadblock along County Road 561 from Nellie Road to Florida Boys Ranch Road.

Troopers asked motorists to use an alternate route as they worked to piece together details of the crash.
