MARATHON, Fla. — A U.S. Coast Guard crew medically evacuated two cruise ship passengers on Tuesday from a vessel located about 12 miles south of Marathon in the Florida Keys.
According to the Coast Guard, the patients were a 78-year-old man and a 72-year-old woman who required a higher level of medical care.
A boat crew from Coast Guard Station Marathon responded and safely transported both passengers from the cruise ship to shore. They were then transferred to local emergency medical personnel in stable condition.
The Coast Guard said the rescue highlights the agency’s ability to coordinate with local emergency responders and provide around-the-clock assistance throughout the Florida Keys.
Officials did not release additional details about the medical conditions of either passenger.
