Construction worker dies after being run over by truck on SR 429 in Ocoee

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A construction worker had died after he was hit by a truck driver inside of an active road construction site in Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the worker was hit around 12:37 a.m. Thursday at a construction site on southbound State Route 429 near West Road in Ocoee.

Another worker driving a construction vehicle was backing up on an exit ramp while attempting to release materials, officials said.

Troopers said the victim was walking in the area when he was struck by the driver.

The driver of the construction vehicle told troopers that he did not see the other worker walking on the site as he was backing up.

The worker, a 22-year-old Sanford resident, was taken to AdventHealth Apopka, where he died.

Troopers said the crash is under investigation.
