Universal Parks & Resorts and other partners on Jan. 5 applied to create a special development taxing district to make the planned Orange County Convention Center SunRail station a reality.

The theme park giant that operates Universal Orlando Resort filed an application with Orange County to create the Shingle Creek Transit Utility Community Development District.
If approved by the county, this quasi-public district would provide a way for the Comcast Corp.-owned Universal Parks & Resorts to finance the construction and operation of a commuter rail station and track that connects the Orange County Convention Center to Orlando International Airport.
