Deputies: 39 stores sold alcohol or tobacco to a customer who was under 21 in undercover bust

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Workers at more than three dozen Volusia County stores are facing legal troubles after they allegedly sold alcohol and tobacco to people under 21.

Over the course of a month, investigators said they sent underage people into 64 gas stations and stores throughout the county.

More than half the time, that undercover buyer walked out with either alcohol, vapes or cigarettes, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said.

In all, 39 clerks, managers and store owners were given notices to appear in court.

According to VCSO, workers at these businesses sold to an undercover, underage buyer:

1. RaceTrac Gas Station (1521 U.S. Highway 1, Ormond Beach) - Sold (1) 24 oz Twisted Tea

2. Exxon Gas Station (1622 U.S. Highway 1, Ormond Beach) - Sold (1) 24 oz Twisted Tea

3. Sunoco Gas Station (1546 W. Granada Boulevard, Ormond Beach) - Sold (1) 16 oz Mike’s Hard Lemonade

4. J’s Discount Beverage (595 Beville Road, South Daytona) - Sold (1) 24 oz Twisted Tea

5. Stream Smoke and Vape (933 Beville Road, Unit A101, South Daytona) - Sold (1) pack of Strawberry flavored Swisher Sweets

6. Just Relax Smoke and Vape Shop (1780 S. Nova Road, Unit 2, South Daytona) - Sold (1) pack of classic flavored Swisher Sweets

7. Circle K Gas Station (4622 S. Clyde Morris Boulevard, Port Orange) - Sold (1) 50ml bottle of Fireball

Last October, Florida implemented a new law that raised the minimum age to purchase tobacco and nicotine products to 21.

VCSO said the undercover operation was a joint effort between the East and West Volusia Narcotics Task Forces and Deltona Narcotics Enforcement Team.
