Deputies ID man found slain in apartment near UCF

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County sheriff's investigators have released the identity of a man they said was shot and killed at an apartment complex near UCF on Wednesday evening.

Investigators said they found the body of Colin Jackson, 22, inside an apartment at the Campus Crossings Apartments on Royal Wulff Lane.

Deputies responded to the apartment after a 911 call reporting shots fired.

"We did find blood on one of the apartment doors. We made entry inside where we found a black male about 30 years old deceased inside the apartment," Lt. Paul Hopkins of the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

Investigators said witnesses told them that Jackson and another man were involved in an altercation before the shots were fired.

Residents at the complex said they weren't surprised to hear of the shooting.

"I'm not shocked, because this neighborhood is really, you know, wretched," resident Angel Smith said.

Some residents said that Jackson had been a problem neighbor.

He was arrested in December on charges of aggravated assault with a firearm, armed burglary and drug violations.

In his booking report, witnesses described Jackson and another man pointing guns at them, demanding their belongings and then stealing things from their apartment.

Investigators have not named a suspect in the shooting and are asking that anyone with information about the shooting call the sheriff's office.
