WINTER PARK, Fla. — A woman was accidentally shot to death inside a Winter Park home early Wednesday morning, according to Seminole County authorities.
Investigators said a woman and her boyfriend were handling a gun when it went off, hitting Tracie Shiflet, 41.
Authorities said Shiflet's 20-year-old son called 911 saying his mother had been accidentally shot.
Edison Garcia-Muniz, 33, was arrested on manslaughter charges, authorities said.
Garcia-Muniz said he did not live at the home, and was visiting. He said when he was handling the gun, he did not know it was loaded and it went off.
"There is some negligence involved here with the handling of the gun, the displaying of the gun and obviously, it going off," said Kim Cannaday of the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.
Neighbors said they've heard what sounded to them like fighting coming from the home in the past.
"We didn't hear no gunshots at all," said neighbor Melanie Alanis. "She did not deserve it."
Shiflet was taken to Winter Park Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
