TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Gov. Ron DeSantis updated Floridians Monday on the state’s recovery from Hurricane Isaias as Florida awaits federal approval of a major disaster declaration.
Florida formally submitted its request last week. On Monday, DeSantis said he had spoken with the FEMA director on Sunday and that the request was being processed.
“We anticipate that will happen relatively soon,” DeSantis said.
If approved, the declaration would provide eligible residents and communities affected by the hurricane with additional federal recovery assistance. Florida is requesting Public Assistance for 15 counties and Individual Assistance for eligible residents in eight counties.
DeSantis also highlighted ongoing state recovery efforts Monday, including temporary housing assistance for displaced residents and financial assistance for first responders whose homes were damaged by the storm.
The state is currently awaiting a federal decision on the disaster declaration request
