DeSantis vs Disney: Board to take major vote next week

ORLANDO, Fla. — Editor’s note: This story is available as a result of a content partnership between WFTV and the Orlando Business Journal.

The ongoing skirmish between The Walt Disney Co. and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ Central Florida Tourism Oversight District board overseeing the former Reedy Creek Improvement District will reach new levels next week when the board seeks to void two controversial agreements.

The district board will meet on April 26 to approve an action that could set off the next series of feuds — potentially even legal challenges — in the year-long fight between DeSantis and Central Florida’s largest single-site employer in Walt Disney World.

According to district documents, the board will seek to “declare the development agreement and declaration of restrictive covenants entered into by the Reedy Creek Improvement District and Walt Disney Parks and Resorts U.S. void [retroactively].”
