EDC Orlando kicks off Friday with new traffic restrictions in place

Orange County enacts special traffic zone ahead of EDC Orlando.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orange County is preparing for major traffic impacts as the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) Orlando kicks off Friday, with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office implementing stricter traffic rules around the event.

EDC Orlando, one of Central Florida’s largest annual events, will take over Tinker Field next to Camping World Stadium.

More than 300,000 people attended the festival last year.

Ahead of this year’s festivities, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office has designated a Special Event Zone in several areas surrounding the event to prevent traffic disruptions caused by unpermitted gatherings.

The zone takes effect at 6 p.m. Thursday, November 5, and remains in place until 8 a.m. Monday, November 9.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the affected areas include:

Colonial Drive from Tampa Avenue to Hiawassee Road.

John Young Parkway from State Road 408 to WD Judge Road.

Old Winter Garden Road from John Young Parkway to Ferguson Drive.

Florida law allows law enforcement agencies to establish Special Event Zones in response to unpermitted activities or events organized or promoted through social media when 50 or more people are expected to attend and the gatherings substantially increase or disrupt normal traffic flow.

The Sheriff’s Office says the designation is intended to prevent severe traffic complications during EDC Orlando weekend.

Drivers traveling near Tinker Field, Camping World Stadium and the surrounding roadways should plan ahead and expect potential traffic impacts as thousands of festivalgoers head into Orlando.
