ORLANDO, Fla. — Fay has made a return to the Atlantic, but its second act is expected to be short-lived.
Forecasters anticipate Fay will weaken and fizzle out for a second time by the end of the week.
Meanwhile, closer to the coast of Africa, an area of low pressure is being monitored for possible tropical development.
There is a 70% chance the system could become a tropical depression later Thursday or Friday.
Even if it does develop, forecasters expect the system to be short-lived.
As the disturbance lifts northward, it will encounter a highly sheared environment.
Strong wind shear can disrupt the organization of a tropical system, making it difficult for the system to strengthen or maintain its structure.
For now, the focus remains on tracking both systems and watching for any changes in the forecast.
