Kentucky-based Italian fast-food joint Fazoli’s will open a new Orlando location -- 15 years after closing its Orlando stores near Orlando Executive Airport and the University of Central Florida.

The restaurant will open in either late summer or early fall in a building at East Colonial Drive and Bennett Road, which previously housed a Boston Market that shuttered in September.

Longtime Orlandoans will nostalgically remember scarfing down Fazoli’s buttery, garlicky breadsticks and slurping down its Italian ice.

In 2008, Fazoli’s closed its previous Orlando locations on East Colonial Drive (now Peter’s Kitchen China Bistro) and on Collegiate Way (now Del Taco).

The company also had locations in Altamonte Springs, Daytona Beach, Kissimmee, Melbourne, Merritt Island, Orange City, Oviedo and Winter Park.

Fazoli’s offers pasta, salad, pizza and subs, but its most well-known menu item is its breadsticks, which are unlimited for customers who dine-in.

The company says it serves more than 100 million breadsticks annually.

Fazoli’s already has restaurants in Clermont, Plant City, Tampa, Panama City and Mary Esther in the Florida Panhandle.
