Bunnell police sergeant dies after suffering ‘cardiac event’ during training exercise

BUNNELL, Fla. — The Bunnell Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its own.

Bunnell police Sgt. Dominic Guida died Tuesday while experiencing a “cardiac event” during a training exercise, police said.

“Despite the quick actions, responses and medical intervention by law enforcement, first responders and the medical staff at Advent Health Hospital, Sgt. Guida passed away yesterday evening,” the agency said in a Facebook post.

Guida was in law enforcement for 19 years, joining Bunnell police in 2016. He was promoted to sergeant in January 2020.

“Dominic was a dedicated public servant and much respected and loved member of the Bunnell family. He loved the Bunnell community and interacting with the citizens and visitors of Bunnell,” the agency said. “Our love, prayers and support go out to Dominic’s family, the Bunnell Police Department, the law enforcement community and all those feeling this great loss.”

The agency noted that Guida previously served with FCSO for “many years” before eventually joining the Bunnell Police Department.

His duties with FCSO included work as a K-9 deputy.
