FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — The final suspect sought in a countywide Flagler County law enforcement initiative has been arrested, officials said.
Warren Franklin, 58, of Palm Coast, was taken into custody Monday, Sept. 21, bringing “Operation Offenders: Endgame” to a close with 45 arrests, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.
Franklin was wanted on two counts of failing to register properly as a sex offender after deputies found he no longer lived at his registered Palm Coast address and had not updated his information, the sheriff’s office said.
Detectives later learned Franklin had recently been staying with his girlfriend in DeLand. He agreed by phone to meet investigators at the residence that evening, but did not show up and stopped answering calls, officials said.
The sheriff’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit tracked Franklin to New Smyrna Beach, where police arrested him on the outstanding warrant. Franklin was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail and was being held on a $50,500 bond.
According to the sheriff’s office, Franklin has 35 prior felony arrests and 20 felony convictions, including cases involving burglary with battery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, drug possession and previous failures to register as a sex offender.
“This pervert lasted longer on the run than any of the others, but in the end they all learned the same thing: The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office is inevitable and you always get caught,” Sheriff Rick Staly said.
Staly said the operation ended with 45 arrests and credited the agency’s team and law enforcement partners.
