Study shows improving erosion on Flagler coast will not be cheap or easy

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — A new coastal study shows that addressing Flagler County’s erosion problems will not be cheap or easy.

An engineering firm spoke to the county commission about the report.

It shows that Flagler’s beaches have lost more than a million cubic yards of sand in the last decade.

The report outlines six different options to deal with the erosion.

Costs could go as high as $137 million.

But some people feel no action is the best course.

“Someone once told me we are a nation that wants to spend, love to spend, and here is a reason to spend money for nothing, said Tomer Oshri with Salty Turtle. “I’m sure Mother Nature will take care of it.”

The county chair said he would like to settle on a plan of action sometime within the next year.
