Florida Education Commissioner stepping down

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Commissioner of Education Richard Corcoran announced he will be stepping down from his position at the end of April.

In a statement announcing the departure Thursday, Gov. Ron DeSantis praised Corcoran as a “champion for Florida students.”

“He is driven by his principles and has never shied away from making the difficult decisions needed to improve the quality of education in Florida,” DeSantis said.

Corcoran was equally complimentary of DeSantis.

“Like the rest of the nation, Florida’s school districts have had to weather some of the greatest difficulties they have ever experienced over the past two years, and I couldn’t think of a better governor to serve,” he said.

Corcoran has served as Commissioner of Education since his appointment in 2018.

Corcoran said that he is looking forward to spending more time with his wife Anne and their six children.
