Florida may fund religious schools after AG’s decision

Public funds could support religious education in Florida as constitutional ban enforcement ends.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Florida could soon begin using taxpayer money to support religious schools.

Attorney General James Uthmeier announced he will not enforce a ban written into the state constitution that previously prevented such funding.

The move could allow public funds to be allocated to religious charter schools and scholarship programs.

This marks a departure from how the constitutional ban has been applied in the state.

Uthmeier said his decision addresses the specific provision in the state constitution regarding the use of taxpayer money for religious education.

Scholarship programs across the state could also be eligible for public financial support following this change in enforcement.
