DORAL, Fla. — Police in South Florida are searching for a man accused of helping to steal nearly $2 million in iPhones.
Doral police are searching for Robert Soto in connection with the theft of nearly $2 million in Apple products from a South Florida FedEx facility.
Investigators say Soto allegedly impersonated a business owner to gain access to the building and remove the electronics.
The theft involved a large quantity of iPhones and iPads that were being loaded into a U-Haul vehicle.
While one suspect, Jeffrey Moore, was arrested at the scene, Soto managed to evade capture after the facility’s owner noticed the suspicious activity and contacted authorities.
Soto allegedly gained access to the building by convincing staff he was the owner of a logistics company.
Based on this claim, he was allowed to carry out several boxes of merchandise from the facility without being challenged.
Investigators determined that Soto and Moore were working together to load the stolen goods into a U-Haul vehicle parked at the site.
Soto managed to flee the area before police arrived.
