“Freedom Week”: Florida’s disaster preparedness sales tax holiday starts this week

ORLANDO, Fla. — State and federal leaders will be sending a message to get people prepared for hurricane season.

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody and President Joe Biden will be holding separate events on Monday to talk about the upcoming season.

Hurricane season officially starts June 1, but we’ve already seen one named storm.

Florida’s traditional disaster preparedness sales tax holiday starts on May 28. The tax holiday is being extended from seven days to 10 days.

It will run from May 28 to June 6.

Tax-free items include flashlights, radios, tarps, batteries, generators and more.

On Friday, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a new tax holiday into law called Freedom Week.

Freedom Week starts on July 1.
