WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Polk State College has named a former Florida Department of Education leader to a newly focused executive role overseeing workforce development and strategic initiatives.
Dr. Kevin O’Farrell joined Polk State College Monday as executive vice president of Workforce & Strategic Initiatives.
O’Farrell most recently served as senior chancellor for Higher Education and Workforce Development at the Florida Department of Education. He previously served as chancellor of the Division of Career and Adult Education and spent eight years at Pasco-Hernando State College in academic leadership roles, including provost and campus president.
“His experience across workforce development, the Florida State College system, and academic affairs will be invaluable as we expand workforce programs, apprenticeships, internships, and career pathways,” Polk State President Anastasios Kamoutsas said.
Role includes workforce programs, online education
O’Farrell will oversee workforce-related programs including Associate in Science, Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Applied Science degrees.
His responsibilities will also include programs at the JD Alexander Center, Clear Springs Advanced Technology Center, Airside Centers and Haines City-Davenport Campus.
The college said O’Farrell will oversee Learning Technology and Online Education as well as special initiatives involving civic engagement and civil discourse.
“Polk State College is well positioned to develop the talent needed to drive economic opportunity for the region,” O’Farrell said, pointing to Polk County’s continued population growth.
College announces broader leadership realignment
O’Farrell’s arrival comes as Polk State makes broader changes to its leadership structure.
Senior Vice President for Student Services and Campus Operations Reggie Webb will take on an expanded focus on student retention and support services while continuing to oversee campus facilities and security.
Provost Dr. Amy Bratten will remain the college’s chief academic officer, with additional focus on student recruitment, advising, transfer pathways, academic quality and graduation.
Polk State said the changes are intended to better align resources with the college’s strategic priorities and improve the student experience.
O’Farrell holds a doctorate in philosophy and master’s degrees in public administration and political science from the University of South Florida, along with a bachelor’s degree in interpersonal and organizational communication from Toccoa Falls College.
