ORLANDO, Fla. — A former Orlando police officer has pleaded guilty of battery and has agreed to give up his law enforcement certification.
Channel 9 has reported extensively on Jonathan Mills.
He’s a former officer of the year for the Orlando Police Department.
Investigators said in August 2014, Mills sexually battered a man during a traffic stop. A YouTube video of that surfaced in July 2020 and sparked the state attorney to review the case.
An internal affairs investigation previously determined there wasn’t enough evidence to prove Mills had done anything wrong. But in September 2021, Channel 9 broke the story that Mills was charged with sexual battery and battery.
The state attorney’s office said Mills ultimately pleaded guilty to battery last week.
He was sentenced to 30 days in the Orange County Jail and will have to give up his law enforcement certification.
