According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were notified about the incident after the 15-year-old Galaxy Middle School student posted an Instagram story of himself showing the gun off in a school restroom.

In the video, the teen can be seen pointing a handgun at the camera and removing the magazine to show that it had at least one round of ammunition.

Deputies were told about the video Tuesday night and identified the teen as well as another student seen in it.

When asked about it, deputies say the student admitted to recording the video in the restroom but said it happened in the past.

Deputies say the gun seen in the video is believed to be a 9mm handgun that was reported stolen during a car burglary in Deltona. The gun owner told deputies he first noticed it was missing from his car’s glove box back on May 5.

The 15-year-old student faces a felony charge of possession of a firearm on school property, but deputies say additional charges are pending.

According to the sheriff’s office, the student is the second Deltona teen arrested recently for an incident involving a stolen gun.

Just last week, a 13-year-old boy from Deltona was charged for a series of car burglaries during which another handgun was stolen. In that case, deputies say the gun was found by the teen’s mom during a search of their home.
