As one of the largest humane societies in Florida, Halifax Humane Society provides a full array of humane programs that allow it to serve over 25,000 animals each year.

Julie Castle, CEO of Best Friends Animal Society, said the help could not have come at a better time.

“May is one of the highest intake months for animal shelters around the country. The sad truth is that shelters get overcrowded when pets aren’t adopted quickly enough and this can put lives at risk,” Castle said.

Castle said that all across the country, shelters are dealing with staffing shortages, limited shelter hours, decreased volunteers, and reduced adoption events, which have led to an increase in the number of pets needing adoption.
