Liftoff! SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket lifted from Cape Canaveral Friday afternoon

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 rocket Friday afternoon from Florida’s Space Coast.

SpaceX plans to launch the rocket with 21 new Starlink satellites in tow Friday morning.

Officials said 13 of those satellites will have “direct to cell” capabilities.

The satellites will be deployed into low-Earth orbit to help expand the company’s global high-speed internet network.

The Jan. 10 launch is scheduled for 11:21 a.m. from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.

After liftoff, SpaceX will aim to land the rocket’s booster on “Just Read the Instructions” a droneship stationed in the Atlantic Ocean.
