VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Schools officially has a new superintendent.
The school district announced that Carmen Balgobin will take over the role.
She previously served as the district’s deputy superintendent before leaving to take a job in South Florida.
“This is so sweet and it’s so nice of you. It’s good to be home,” Balgobin said.
The board selected Balgobin last month after the previous superintendent was fired.
Balgobin filled in for Scott Fritz during the height of the pandemic while Fritz was out with cancer.
Board Chair Ruben Colon said that during the time Balgobin was filling in, they spoke almost daily and that he was impressed with the way Balgobin managed to reopen schools successfully and safely.
Balgobin will serve as superintendent for the next three years.
