ORLANDO, Fla. — Central Florida is in for a warm and muggy Labor Day, with afternoon temperatures climbing into the upper 80s and low 90s.
The humidity will make it feel even hotter, with heat index values reaching around 100 to 102 degrees during the afternoon.
Rain and thunderstorm chances will be high across Central Florida on Monday.
Some communities could start the day with wet weather, particularly across Marion, Sumter and Lake counties, where early rain is likely.
By midday, showers and thunderstorms will become more widespread. The greatest concern will be for pockets of heavy rain, especially during the late afternoon and evening.
Locally, the beaches could see some of the heaviest rainfall later Monday as storms become more active.
The unsettled pattern isn’t expected to end after Labor Day.
Rain and storm chances will remain elevated throughout the week, with locally heavy rainfall continuing to be the primary weather concern.
The Atlantic Basin remains quiet for now as we approach the climatological peak of hurricane season.
The peak of the season is just three days away, on Sept. 10.
While the tropics are currently quiet, conditions can change quickly around this time of year, so continued monitoring is important.
