MT DORA, Fla. — A Lake County jury has recommended a life sentence for Vickie Lynn Williams, 53, who was convicted earlier this week in the 2022 stabbing deaths of a retired Mount Dora couple.
Following the jury’s recommendation, Judge Cary F. Rada sentenced Williams to life in the Florida Department of Corrections.
On Tuesday, a jury found Williams guilty of two counts of first-degree murder after about 30 minutes of deliberations.
Prosecutors said Darryl Getman, 83, and Sharon Getman, 80, were found stabbed to death inside their home at the Lakeside at Waterman Village retirement community on Dec. 31, 2022.
Investigators with the Mount Dora Police Department, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and Lake County Sheriff’s Office identified Williams as the suspect through a coordinated investigation and forensic evidence.
According to prosecutors, Williams fled in the couple’s green Kia Soul after the killings and took jewelry and paintings belonging to the victims. She was arrested in Savannah, Georgia, on Jan. 2, 2023, and has remained in custody since then.
During the trial, jurors heard testimony and reviewed surveillance footage, forensic evidence, and property recovered from Williams that belonged to the Getmans.
“Darryl and Sharon Getman lost their lives to an act of unimaginable violence,” State Attorney Bill Gladson said in a statement. “Today, the jury made clear that their lives mattered, accountability matters, and justice does not forget.”
