Deputies search for man seen running from burning car with body inside in Lake County

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — An investigation is underway in Lake County after deputies found a man’s body in the trunk of a burning car.

Witnesses said they saw a man running away from the vehicle.

This all unfolded at around 9 a.m. Saturday in a rural area of Lake County near of Honeycutt and Tuscanooga roads.

Deputies said when the body was found in the SUV, there also was fire damage inside.

The witnesses who called police said they saw a gas can on fire next to the car as the other man ran away.

Eight hours later, deputies were still investigating the crime scene.

Deputies now are working to use what they found at the scene to identify the victim and whoever killed him.

Whether that was the man running from the scene or not is unclear.
