Police: School guardian confronts armed man who hopped fence at local high school

LEESBURG, Fla. — A school guardian confronted an armed man who hopped a fence at Leesburg High School on Thursday morning, the Leesburg Police Department said.

Police said the incident happened at about 11 a.m.

“Our guardian noticed the intruder, confronted him and contacted law enforcement,” a school district spokeswoman told Channel 9. “The intruder was arrested.”

The spokeswoman said she did not know if the person was armed, but Leesburg police told Channel 9 that the man was armed with a flare gun that had been altered so that it could fire shotgun rounds.

Investigators said the man, Jabari Scott, also had drugs on him. They said he told them he was cutting through campus as a shortcut.

“I’m thankful for the quick response,” Principal Michael Randolph said.
