LAKE WALES, Fla. — Residents of Lake Wales’ historic northwest neighborhood now have access to new and improved sidewalks along eight streets.
The project added or rehabilitated sidewalks on Orange Avenue, Wetmore Street, Sessoms Avenue, Seminole Avenue, Seaboard Avenue, Dorsett Avenue, B Street and C Street.
City staff secured a $1.2 million state grant for the work. The project is part of the Lake Wales Connected Plan, which outlines transportation and accessibility improvements across the city.
“Sidewalks tell a story about a community’s priorities,” Assistant City Manager Deena Drumgo said. “The northwest sidewalk project demonstrates Lake Wales values connectivity, accessibility and safety for our residents.”
An earlier phase was completed in 2025 along portions of Florida Avenue, Lincoln Avenue, Washington Avenue, E Street, F Street, Harding Avenue and Dr. J.A. Wiltshire Avenue.
The city plans to add landscaping and street trees in selected areas. Other neighborhood improvements include new streetlights, illuminated bus stops and the Lake Wales Circulator bus service, which connects residents with stores, health services and community destinations.
