Law enforcement officers support Special Olympics torch run in Lake County

Special Olympics torch run makes a stop in Lake County for a fundraising effort.

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Law enforcement officers in Lake County participated in the Special Olympics Torch Run on Thursday afternoon to raise money for athletes across the state.

The run started in Clermont as part of a relay spanning more than 1,500 miles.

The relay is scheduled to travel through all 67 counties in Florida before concluding at the State Games.

The event represents a massive coordination of law enforcement agencies across the state.

Since the initiative began in 1981, the event has raised more than $1 billion.
