Lottery group in Florida wins $1 million in scratch-off game, win captured live on Facebook

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A group of five lottery players located across the Sunshine State is cashing in after claiming a #1 million prize from the $1,000,000 A YEAR FOR LIFE SPECTACULAR scratch-off game from the Florida Lottery.

The group, who calls themselves the Lucky Lotto Champs Facebook group chose to receive their winning as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $640,000.

Elizabeth Williams, 60, of Jacksonville, claimed the prize for the group at the Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee.

The group was on a Facebook Live video together as Williams scratched the $1 million-winning ticket.

“We’re a close-knit group that enjoys putting our money together to play Scratch-Offs,” said Williams. “When I scratched the ticket, I couldn’t believe it. All I could say was ‘O-M-G’ over and over.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Publix, located at 7749 Normandy Boulevard in Jacksonville.

The store that sold the winning ticket will receive a $2,000 bonus commission.

The new, $50 scratch-off game, $1,000,000 A YEAR FOR LIFE SPECTACULAR, launched in February and features two top prizes of $1 million a year for life and 234 prizes of $1 million.

Scratch-off games made up 77% of ticket sales in the 2021-2022 fiscal year.

Since its inception, scratch-off games have generated more than $17.69 billion for the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund.
