SANFORD, Fla. — A 28-year-old man was found dead early Monday morning in Sanford, authorities said.
Jerald Todd was shot at the 1100 block of West 12th Street, officers said.
"He was found just before 3 this morning, lying in the road with an apparent gunshot wound," said Shannon Cordingly, of the Sanford Police Department.
"At this point, we are processing the crime scene and talking to neighbors in the area that may be potential witnesses may have seen something or heard something."
Todd's family told WFTV that they do not believe he was the intended target. Family members and friends broke down in tears after finding out their loved one had been shot and killed.
"He was a sweet and loving person. He had his own car wash business; for somebody to do that -- he didn't deserve that," said Todd's cousin, Crystal Hill. "Justice needs to be served."
By late Monday morning, family and friends had set up a memorial to Todd on the spot where his body was found.
"My cousin is going to be missed because he was well known as a good guy," said Hill.
Police said they don't believe Todd was targeted and said they are hoping someone will come forward with information so that they can identify a suspect.
