Man hit and killed by FedEx truck along SR 528, trooper hurt in separate crash

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A man was killed along the Beachline Expressway in east Orange County Thursday night after troopers say he was hit by a truck.

According to Florida Highway Patrol. the crash happened around 8 p.m. in the westbound lanes of State Road 528 at mile marker 27.

That’s a few miles east of Dallas Blvd., near the Wedgefield community.

FHP said the man was standing near his vehicle, which was parked along the north shoulder of SR 528.

Troopers say he walked into the path of a FedEx truck traveling westbound on SR 528.

The front of the truck struck the pedestrian, who died at the crash scene, investigators said.

He has not been identified, but FHP said he was a 46-year-old Orlando resident.

Meanwhile, as troopers blocked access to nearby State Road 520, they said a driver heading westbound on SR 528 failed to stop and collided with a trooper’s cruiser.

That trooper, not inside at the time, was stuck by his own patrol car as a result of the collision.

FHP said the trooper, 30, was hospitalized, but his injuries aren’t life-threatening.

FHP continues to investigate both crashes.
