Man shot during argument at DeLand gas station

DeLAND, Fla. — Surveillance video from a DeLand gas station shows how an argument over a gas pump Saturday ended in gunfire.

Investigators said Paul Giangrasso acted in self-defense when he shot Francisco Grimaldo in the stomach.

The video shows several customers were pumping gas at the Race Trac on Woodland Boulevard when an argument turned violent.

According to the police report, two families got angry at one another while trying to drive through the busy parking lot.

Police said Giangrasso and his family were trying to leave when Grimaldo ran after them.

“They pushed the issue to a point that it escalated to this type of violence,” said Sgt. Chris Estes  of the DeLand Police Department.

“If they would have walked away and let Mr. Giangrasso leave, this would have never happened."

The video shows Grimaldo's brother run over and put Giangrasso in a headlock. That's when Giangrasso fired a shot, striking Grimaldo.

“It unravels to a degree that Mr. Giangrasso had no choice,” said Estes.  “He did what he had to do to protect himself."

Grimaldo survived, but now faces charges and jail time.

Giangrasso was not charged in the case.
