1 dead after man shoots 3 people who attacked him inside Ocala bar, police say

OCALA, Fla. — Police said a man shot three people who attacked him while he was inside an Ocala bar, and one of the attackers died.

Investigators said the bar's surveillance video captured the fight and shooting and it gives a clear picture of what happened.

This shooting happened around 5:45 p.m. Saturday at the Jade Lounge on Northeast Jacksonville Road.

Police said so far, the shooter has not been arrested and is not facing any charges.

Officers said the shooting looks like self-defense, but the State Attorneys Office will have to make the final decision.

"The shooter was just sitting there minding his business and these three men kind of walked up to him and started this fight," said Corie Byrd, with the Ocala Police Department. "We found three victims laying inside the building and one, the shooter had fled."

Officials say witnesses gave them a description of the shooter and they were able to track him down in no time.

Detectives then reviewed the surveillance video.

"Three men went up to the shooter who was sitting at the bar. They had a stand-offish type of approach toward him in the video,” Byrd said. “One of them hits him and punches him in the face and the other two proceed to follow. The fight goes down to the ground and once they get down on the ground, you can see this gentleman that was sitting at the bar pull something that looked like a firearm from his waist band and shots fired shortly after that."

Officials identified the shooting victim as 56-year-old James Wallace, who later died from his injuries.

Police said the men knew each other and this was possibly domestic related, but they are still investigating.
