OCALA, Fla. — Twelve families have been displaced after a tree fell on an apartment Saturday, Ocala Police Department officials said.
Ocala Fire Rescue received calls of a confined space emergency at Saddleworth Green Apartments around 8 p.m.
Once crews arrived, they found a large tree on top of building #1300. Firefighters said the tree was being cut and part of its limbs were poking through the roof.
Officials said they cleared the building and ensured residents and pets were safe.
OFR said no injuries were reported, but because of the damage to the building’s infrastructure, 12 apartments are uninhabitable.
The American Red Cross was requested to provide aid to those families.
Marion County Animal Services also protected the animals whose owners weren’t home.
OPD, the building inspector and Ocala Electric Utilities were present.
