Massive crowds turn out for Artemis II rocket launch in Titusville

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Thousands of spectators gathered in Titusville on Wednesday to watch the Artemis II rocket blast off into space. The event drew massive crowds of space fans who waited for hours to see the historic mission depart.

The high volume of visitors prompted local authorities to manage traffic and infrastructure in the area. Police closed the A. Max Brewer Bridge to the public around 5 p.m. as viewing areas reached capacity.

Tibby, a launch watcher on the scene, observed the changing environment as the area became more crowded. “We’ve been out here all day and have watched this crowd grow from small, to big, to really big,” Tibby said.

Some attendees arrived more than 24 hours before the scheduled liftoff to secure prime viewing locations. Manny Escobar, who is a rocket enthusiast and photographer, said he arrived at his spot at 6 a.m. on Thursday. “I’ve been up here since six o’clock yesterday morning,” Escobar said. “Its historic and I happen to love rockets and love photography.” Escobar attended the event with his family to share the experience. “It’s history and I wanted my kids to see this,” he said.

The physical impact of the launch was a highlight for many in the crowd. Keilb Serrano, a launch watcher, described the intense atmosphere during the ascent. “It was so great and was so loud,” Serrano said. Other spectators, including Jenn Martin and Jim Roberts, shared similar sentiments. Roberts described the liftoff as “just about the grandest thing I’ve ever seen,” while Martin called the experience “awesome.” Participants of all ages indicated that the long hours spent waiting for the view were worthwhile.
