Mathers Bridge in Brevard County closed for repairs

MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. — Officials in Brevard County are notifying residents of a bridge closure affecting traffic on Merritt Island.

According to officials, the Mathers Bridge suffered a mechanical failure that prevents cars from being able to cross over.

The 700-foot-long low-level swing bridge connects south Merritt Island with Indian Harbor Beach.

Officials have not said how long the bridge will be closed while repairs are made.

During the closure, residents on south Merritt Island will need to use Pineda Causeway to reach the mainland.
