Meet the new red river hog triplets at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

Adorable red river hog triplets debut at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. They will eventually be moved to a public-facing area of the resort.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Recently, three adorable red river hog triplets made their debut at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge! The little piglets are doing wonderfully, happily bonding with their mother in a cozy backstage habitat.

The resort’s animal care team is keeping an eye on the newborns as they develop behind the scenes. Although the triplets are not yet visible to guests, preparations are underway for their eventual move to a public-facing area of the resort.

The piglets were born with yellow stripes and spots on a brown coat, called a “watermelon pattern,” helping them hide in the wild. These markings are temporary and will be replaced by the reddish-brown adult fur.

The stripes usually start to fade when piglets are about six months old. Red river hogs are very social animals that live in groups known as “sounders,” both in the wild and in managed care.

The piglets are expected to make their “onstage” debut for guests in the near future. Disney officials stated the triplets will eventually be moved from the backstage habitat to the Pembe Savanna.
