Monday marks four years since 17 people were killed in Parkland high school shooting

PARKLAND, Fla. — Monday marks four years since 17 people were killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.

Gov. Ron DeSantis has ordered flags to fly at half staff in their honor.

Nikolas Cruz pleaded guilty last year to killing 14 students and three staff members in 2018.

Seventeen other people were also injured.

Cruz was 19 years old on Feb. 14, 2018 when he brought an AR-15 rifle into Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and began shooting in the school’s hallways.

Cruz now faces the death penalty.

DeSantis is also asking all Floridians to pause for a moment of silence in remembrance of those victims.

The moment of silence will happen at 3 p.m.

Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried announced that the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services buildings and the Midway at the Florida State Fairgrounds will be lit up on Monday night with orange lights in honor of the Parkland shooting victims and their families.
