Mother of drive-by shooting victim demands justice

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The mother of an Orange County man who was killed in a drive-by shooting involving NFL player Chris Johnson talked to Eyewitness News on Monday evening.

The shooting happened near the intersection of Southland Boulevard and South Orange Blossom Trail around 4 a.m. Sunday.

Dreekius Johnson, 28, was found fatally shot in a gold Jeep. His childhood friends, 30-year-old Reggie Johnson and 29-year-old Chris Johnson, were found shot on the sidewalk nearby, according to investigators.

"He don't deserve this and God knows he didn't," said Diane Johnson, mother of Dreekius Johnson.

Reggie Johnson and Chris Johnson, who most recently played for the New York Jets, are expected to survive. None of the victims are related to each other.

"My son is the kindest, sweetest, humble young man that you can ever imagine," Diane Johnson said.

Investigators told Channel 9 they believe the men were targeted, but Diane Johnson doesn't agree.

"My son is so loved. I don't know where they're getting their information from," Diane Johnson said.

Diane Johnson said her son and his friends were going to pick up food after leaving a nightclub before the shooting. She's now demanding justice for her son.

"Please come forward and turn yourself in. Oh, Lord," Diane Johnson said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
