SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle crash where a 40-year-old Lake Panasoffkee man died yesterday afternoon in Sumter County.
The collision, which involved a Yamaha motorcycle and a Ford F150 pickup truck, occurred at 2:06 p.m. near the intersection of County Road 470 and County Road 416N.
Both drivers were traveling westbound on County Road 470 before the collision occurred.
According to troopers, the motorcyclist was traveling behind the pickup truck and attempted to pass it in a designated passing zone.
As the vehicles reached the intersection with County Road 416N, the 54-year-old pickup driver, also a resident of Lake Panasoffkee, attempted to turn left. The truck entered the path of the passing motorcycle, causing the motorcycle to collide with the truck.
Emergency services transported the 40-year-old motorcyclist to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
