FHP: 3 die in SUV rollover crash in Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol said three people died in a crash Thursday night in Orange County.

Troopers responded to the two-vehicle crash near North Hiawassee Road and Hiawassee Meadows Drive around 615 p.m.

FHP said a 2003 Jeep Liberty was traveling northbound on North Hiawassee Road, south of Hiawassee Meadows Drive.

Troopers said a 2019 Ram 2500 pickup truck was driving southbound on North Hiawassee Road, south of Hiawassee Meadows Drive, on the inside lane.

A witness said the Jeep lost control, crossed over the median, and began to overturn.

The SUV then entered the direct path of the truck, and as a result, collided with the pickup, troopers said.

Troopers said the Jeep’s driver was ejected and his SUV came to rest on its roof.

FHP said the driver and two men who were passengers in the SUV all died at the crash site.

The driver of the Ram truck, 42, of Kissimmee, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, but he’s expected to recover, FHP said.

The crash caused roadblock for hours, but troopers eventually reopened North Hiawassee Road.

The crash remains under investigation.
