ST CLOUD, Fla. — A disabled senior rescue dog whose specialized wheelchair was stolen will soon receive a replacement thanks to community support and a charitable organization.
The Pittie Party of Central Florida announced that a new pink wheelchair has been ordered and shipped for Baby, a hospice dog whose stolen mobility device sparked a social media campaign shared by the St. Cloud Police Department.
The rescue thanked supporters who rallied around Baby after news of the theft spread online.
“We were notified that a wonderful organization called Ruck9 has already ordered and shipped a new pink wheelchair for Baby,” the rescue said in a social media update.
The organization also thanked St. Cloud Police Chief Douglas Goerke and the police department for their efforts to investigate what happened to the wheelchair.
The rescue said many people offered to purchase a replacement chair or donated money toward the cost. Because a new wheelchair has already been secured, the group said anyone who donated specifically for the chair and would like a refund can contact the rescue. Any remaining funds will be used for Baby’s ongoing care and the care of other hospice dogs.
The Pittie Party of Central Florida said rising costs have created financial challenges for the rescue, which cares for dogs with significant medical and behavioral needs.
The organization said it plans to share updates once Baby receives her new wheelchair.
