NJ police officer injured in Winter Haven fight

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — A 42-year-old police officer attacked another officer who was in Central Florida to testify at a hearing, authorities said. Both officers are from New Jersey.

Winter Haven police said they were called to the Holiday Inn Express late Tuesday where they found 45-year-old Patrick Riley of Carneys Point, N.J., bleeding from injuries to his face and head.

Police said the officers met at a bar earlier Tuesday and Allen Kenneth Moore Jr. apparently became extremely intoxicated. After returning to the hotel, Riley told Moore he was in no shape to drive and offered to let him stay there. At some point, Moore hit Riley with a lamp, police said.

Riley was treated at a hospital. Moore was charged with aggravated battery. Both work for the Penns Grove Police Department.
