Now is the time to prepare: Florida’s Hurricane Tax holiday continues this week

ORLANDO, Fla. — It is something no Floridian wants to hear. The 2022 Atlantic hurricane season begins next Wednesday.

To help residents prepare, Florida’s Hurricane Tax Holiday kicked off last Saturday.

The break means people can buy important hurricane supplies, tax free.

Batteries, portable power banks and carbon monoxide detectors are among the items that can be purchased tax free.

Carbon monoxide detectors can be especially important since it is deadly to run a generator indoors.

“It’s also a good way to get these items ahead of time,” said Larry DeFilippo with Ace Hardware. “And that’s really the biggest tip that we could give, to prepare ahead of time, not wait till the last minute.”

The tax holiday runs through June 10.
