Orange County Convention Center expansion tops list of projects contending for $330M in funds

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A desirable prized pot of more than $330 million in revenue generated from a hotel tax now has 11 official contenders.

However, who comes out a big winner is still a big question.

A task force convened for weeks, sorting through applications and trying to figure out what projects were worth a greenlight. In the end, a list of 11 is moving forward

An expansion of the Orange County Convention Center sits at the top of that list.

At the final task force meeting, public speakers included a handful of hourly tourist industry workers there to support a convention center expansion. The project was in the works, but paused during the pandemic.

It would include building a ballroom and providing necessary meeting space that convention center executives believe is needed to help bring in more business.

Second and third on the list are renovations to Camping World Stadium and Amway Center, respectively.
