ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of three individuals accused of stealing family heirlooms from cemetery niches across the United States.
Authorities identified the suspects as Drake Milam, 33, his girlfriend Porsche Bancroft, 32, and her mother Angela Garrett, 52.
The suspects, who are believed to be from Indianapolis, are believed to be along the East Coast, traveling nationwide to break into niches containing cremated remains. The Attorney General’s Office of Statewide Prosecution is prosecuting the case, which currently includes 20 documented incidents in Florida.
In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s office emphasized the severity of the crimes against grieving relatives. “Imagine losing your wife or husband and placing their wedding ring and yours in the niche – only to have them stolen by thieves looking for an easy payday,” the sheriff’s office said. “This will not stand. Not in Florida. Statewide, there are 20 cases – but detectives believe there could be many more.”
Authorities are encouraging people who have not recently visited the gravesites of their late loved ones to check for any signs of disturbance and to contact local law enforcement if they notice anything unusual.
